The short answer

Start with MailerLite for a newsletter operation, Mailchimp when its marketing flows and a separately priced Transactional service match your needs, or ActiveCampaign with an eligible CRM add-on when deal progress must drive follow-up. Compare the whole workload: retained contacts, campaign sends, application messages, sales users and the work of maintaining a second service. Keep Brevo in the comparison if a replacement would break a working connection.

Which Brevo alternative should you shortlist?

Start with MailerLite if you mainly need newsletters, signup forms and a welcome sequence. Consider Mailchimp if its marketing automation fits your process and you can budget separately for application email. Evaluate ActiveCampaign with a CRM add-on if changing a deal stage must change what happens next in marketing or sales.

Those are different replacements. A receipt sent by your application, a newsletter sent to subscribers and a task assigned to a salesperson each need a working destination. Moving the newsletter alone can leave the other two behind.

This shortlist uses official documentation checked on September 11, 2026. We have not run product trials, delivered a test campaign or measured inbox placement. The scenarios below are fictional planning examples. A documented feature earns a place in your evaluation; your own workflow still needs a trial.

If you searched for Sendinblue alternatives, this guide covers the broad replacement decision for that former brand. Sendinblue changed its name to Brevo in 2023, as its company announcement confirms. This guide focuses on a small team's campaigns, application messages and sales follow-up. Specialist SMTP infrastructure, self-hosted systems and enterprise customer data platforms need a separate evaluation.

Name the problem before choosing a replacement

Complete this sentence: “We want to leave Brevo because ___, and the replacement must still ___.” Use a specific failure, such as a missing trigger, a contact ceiling or a handoff someone has to repair every week.

Name the problem before choosing a replacement: table 1
Reason you are looking What the next product must demonstrate What a feature list cannot settle
Preparing a newsletter takes too much work Your actual template, signup form and approval routine Whether your team finds the editor easier
Automation cannot follow your process Required entry event, condition, delay and exit rule Whether the connected app sends the right data in time
The bill no longer matches usage A quote for retained contacts and every message stream Savings based on a smaller starting tier
Sales follow-up gets lost Named deal owner, next task, stage and relevant marketing change Whether a contact profile replaces a sales pipeline
Important messages arrive late or fail The actual failure's cause, retry handling and suppression behavior A promise that another provider will reach every inbox

Keep one example of the problem and its consequence. A salesperson missing a task is different from a customer waiting for a password reset. If the problem is a connector mapping or an invalid sending setup, changing the campaign editor may leave it unresolved.

Keep Brevo's current limits in the comparison

Brevo's paid plans have both an email allowance and a contact storage ceiling. In the official configurator checked for this guide, selecting Starter with 5,000 monthly emails showed 500 included contacts. The allowance covered campaigns and transactional messages. That is one selected tier, not the limit of every Brevo plan. Check both controls in the current configurator.

The plan guide separately lists Free with storage for 100,000 contacts and a 300-email daily limit, subject to account approval for sending. That Free storage allowance does not make paid contact storage unlimited, and a daily allowance cannot be spent all at once on a larger newsletter.

Sales requirements change the baseline too. Brevo's included sales tools allow 50 open deals and one pipeline. Sales Essentials adds more sales capacity, while multi-user availability depends on the underlying plan. For two sales users and two pipelines, request the eligible base plan, sales package and user access together. Check the sales add-on documentation before treating the current subscription as equivalent to a replacement quote.

Three alternatives, with their important dependencies

MailerLite for a newsletter operation

MailerLite belongs on the shortlist when the work is publishing campaigns, collecting subscribers and maintaining email automations. For this shortlist, focus on its Comfort and Power paid plans. Older comparisons may call them Growing Business and Advanced; the 2026 plan update explains the transition.

Comfort allows monthly sends equal to ten times the ceiling of the purchased subscriber tier and up to 50 active automations. Power's unlimited sending is subject to a fair use policy. Use the tier ceiling when checking capacity, then check the actual flow requirements rather than buying the larger plan merely because it says unlimited.

Application messages need their own route. MailerLite points to MailerSend for transactional email, and MailerSend documents an API for messages such as order confirmations and password resets. Include that separate service, its allowance and the person maintaining the connection in the decision. A shared brand family does not prove that an existing Brevo integration or template will transfer automatically.

Choose it for evaluation when: the newsletter is the main job and the team can name any work that will remain elsewhere. Rebuild one representative email and form before committing. This guide has not established a complete sales pipeline replacement in the reviewed MailerLite configuration.

If the newsletter supports your own digital products, the Flodesk vs Kit guide examines that narrower creator journey, including how purchases and topic changes affect later sales emails.

Mailchimp for marketing flows plus a separate application sender

Mailchimp is a candidate when its audience tools and marketing flows match the way you communicate. Conditional splits require Standard or higher according to the automation documentation. Confirm the required rule and source event before assuming a cheaper tier supports the same sequence.

For application email sent through an API, Mailchimp Transactional is a paid add-on requiring Standard or higher. It is purchased in recurring blocks of 25,000 emails; unused blocks expire monthly. Implementation requires development knowledge. Those details matter even when your application sends substantially fewer messages. See the Transactional add-on requirements.

Mailchimp Marketing also includes some automated transactional options, such as order notifications. Check whether a supported store integration already performs your exact job. That does not establish that arbitrary application events can use the same route without the add-on.

Choose it for evaluation when: a specific marketing flow or integration earns its place, and the complete Marketing plus Transactional configuration makes sense. If visual newsletter production is your main concern, the Flodesk and Mailchimp comparison examines that narrower decision. A Mailchimp audience alone does not demonstrate the owned opportunities and sales tasks required in the third scenario below.

ActiveCampaign when sales progress must affect follow-up

ActiveCampaign is worth evaluating when marketing needs to respond to a deal's progress. Its Pipelines Enhanced CRM add-on is available with Plus, Professional and Enterprise. The base marketing subscription is not the whole sales configuration. Plus includes one user with additional seats available, so request access for the actual team. The plan overview sets out these dependencies.

The pipeline guide permits unlimited pipelines, supporting the two-pipeline requirement below when combined with eligible CRM access. Documented CRM actions include updating a deal stage or owner and adding a deal task. Automated one-to-one email requires the Sales Engagement add-on rather than Pipelines alone. Verify the exact action against the automation action guide.

For transactional email, ActiveCampaign documents a separate add-on using Postmark. That establishes a product path, not that your application's existing API calls, templates and event logs will work unchanged.

Choose it for evaluation when: a concrete deal event should change a task or a message, and someone can maintain the rules. Describe the required outcome with the CRM requirements checklist. Do not pay for a sales configuration simply to keep names and email addresses in a list.

Compare the same workload in three scenarios

These examples define monthly work before selecting a plan. Subscriber totals already include the new people receiving welcome emails. They assume every planned recipient receives each relevant message, exclude tests and resends, and make no allowance for growth. Add those to your own forecast.

Compare the same workload in three scenarios: table 2
Planning input A: Newsletter only B: Campaigns and an application C: Campaigns and sales
People eligible for marketing 800 2,400 1,800
Additional retained contacts not eligible for marketing 0 0 in this simplified example 200
Regular campaign sends 4 x 800 = 3,200 2 x 2,400 = 4,800 4 x 1,800 = 7,200
Welcome or nurture sends 40 x 2 = 80 100 x 2 = 200 60 x 3 = 180
Total marketing emails 3,280 5,000 7,380
Application messages None 10,000 receipts + 2,000 account notifications = 12,000 None
Sales work None None 2 users, 40 open deals, 2 pipelines

For scenario B, all application recipients are among the stated 2,400 people, but each message still needs its own appropriate purpose and status checks. Real applications may have many customers who never subscribed. Count those separately. If both message streams consume the same Brevo allowance, this example needs 17,000 emails, before operational headroom.

The next table records documented fit, second service required or evidence pending. Documented fit means the named product category and paid configuration support the stated kind of work on paper. It does not mean we have tested the complete scenario.

Compare the same workload in three scenarios: table 3
Candidate A: Newsletter only B: Campaigns and application C: Campaigns and sales Extra subscription and operating work
MailerLite Documented fit: paid newsletter plan with adequate subscriber and send capacity Second service required: MailerLite plus a configured MailerSend API service Evidence pending: the reviewed configuration does not establish two owned deal pipelines; evaluate a separate CRM For B, budget MailerSend and assign an application owner for credentials, templates and callbacks
Mailchimp Documented fit: paid Marketing plan, with Standard if the flow needs conditional splits Second service required: Standard or higher plus Transactional for the stated application API route Evidence pending: audience and campaign tools do not establish the opportunity workflow; scope a separate CRM For B, budget recurring Transactional blocks and developer time to maintain the sending route
ActiveCampaign Documented fit: marketing plan with sufficient contacts, sends and automation actions Evidence pending: a Postmark automation action is documented; the external application API route is not established here Documented fit: Plus or higher, eligible CRM add-on and two-user access; trial both pipelines and exact rules For C, budget CRM and seats; assign a rule owner. For B, scope Postmark costs and an application owner

These mappings follow the documentation linked above. The scenario B distinction concerns the documented route: MailerSend and Mailchimp explicitly describe application APIs, while the reviewed ActiveCampaign add-on guide describes an automation action. Every route still needs implementation checks; none was tested for this guide.

Check contact definitions before comparing cost

Scenario A already exceeds MailerLite Free's current 250-subscriber and 2,500-monthly-email limits. It also exceeds Mailchimp Free's 250-contact and 500-monthly-email limits. A free plan is therefore not an equivalent quote for this workload. Check MailerLite pricing and Mailchimp pricing for current capacity.

MailerLite bases paid billing on active subscribers counted cumulatively during the billing cycle. Removing someone later does not erase their earlier activity from that cycle's count. Mailchimp counts subscribed, unsubscribed and non-subscribed contacts toward its marketing contact limit, while archived contacts are treated differently. Its contact status guide explains those distinctions. For scenario C, retaining all 200 excluded people as unsubscribed or non-subscribed Mailchimp contacts means evaluating 2,000 contacts, not just 1,800 recipients.

Request each quote with the same currency, billing term, contact mix, message volumes, users and required add-ons. Record separate service minimums, extra seats, connector charges, implementation time and subscription overlap. The software cost checklist helps keep those costs in one comparison. This guide makes no cheapest-provider claim because we have not obtained equivalent quotes for all three workloads.

Protect the connections and data you would otherwise lose

Before moving, list each live form, website integration, application sender and sales process. Give each a destination and an owner. Keep the following details alongside that inventory:

Protect the connections and data you would otherwise lose: table 4
What must survive Evidence to retain What to verify at the destination
Marketing eligibility Original source, timestamp, status and exclusions An import or integration cannot silently resubscribe an excluded person
Transactional restrictions Block reason and affected channel or sender The destination enforces the intended restriction before live messages start
Template behavior Subject, variables, fallback values, links and text version Missing data does not produce a broken or misleading message
Automation position Entry rule, current step, waits and exit conditions Existing subscribers do not restart a welcome sequence unintentionally
Application events Event identifier, template mapping and delivery callbacks Retries or a provider switch do not create duplicate receipts
Sales context Contact-to-company-to-deal links, owners and next actions The person doing the work can find the right relationship and task
Historical reporting Dated exports and definitions of the metrics used Old and new reports remain interpretable without pretending their counts are identical

Brevo exposes campaign blocklists separately from transactional restrictions, including the sender associated with a transactional block. Consult its blocklist guide. Preserve those distinctions rather than flattening everything into a single subscribed field. Receiving an account notification does not establish permission to receive marketing, and an address verification result does not supply that permission either.

Contact export alone does not establish that templates, automation progress, event history or relationships will move. Mark each item as imported, rebuilt, retained in a readable archive or still unresolved. For the sales records, follow the relationship and reconciliation steps in the CRM migration checklist.

Contact cards are paired between two archive boxes, with a red-tabbed card kept separate.
Rehearse the move with a small sample and preserve exclusions alongside the records that should transfer. AI-generated editorial illustration.

Run a small rehearsal before changing live traffic

Use invented records and inboxes your team controls. Keep imported contacts out of live automations. Rehearse one subscribed reader, one marketing opt-out, one transactional restriction, one missing template value and one repeated application event. For a sales replacement, add a deal with an owner, a dated task and a stage change.

Write the expected result beside each case before running it. An opt-out must remain excluded from marketing. A repeated application event must not produce an unintended second receipt. A stage change must create or update the intended task exactly once. These are proposed acceptance checks, not results we observed in these products.

For cutover, assign one live sender per event type. You can move newsletters before application messages if their responsibilities and exclusions remain clear. Pause the old campaign automations before enabling their replacements, record the last processed application event, and account for messages already queued or accepted. Preserve the required authentication for each authorized sender during the overlap.

Stop if an excluded record becomes sendable, a critical message uses the wrong template, a retry duplicates an event or a deal loses its owner. Returning traffic to the old provider requires reconciling what both systems already processed. Simply turning both senders on is not a rollback. Keep access to the source data until the responsible owners approve the retained records, message paths and reports.

When staying with Brevo makes sense

Keep Brevo on the shortlist when its connected campaign, transactional and sales work meets your requirements, and the alternatives introduce a second service without fixing a defined problem. Also consider a smaller change: correcting a mapping, simplifying a flow or selecting a plan that fits both contact storage and sends.

Choose a replacement when it solves the problem you recorded, preserves every required job and has someone who can maintain it within the team's budget. Your next step is to take one scenario, replace the example quantities with your own, and ask the strongest candidate to demonstrate the missing connection. That produces a more useful decision than adding another ten Brevo competitors to the list.
